Heidi Allen
Associate Professor, The Columbia School of Social Work

Co-investigator in the landmark Oregon Health Insurance Experiment, Allen is a nationally recognized researcher, writer and advisor in the field of health policy and a member of the NIH Health Disparities Equity Promotion Study Section. She studies the impact of social policies, like Medicaid – America’s health insurance for the poor – on health and financial well-being.

Joseph Benitez
Assistant Professor, University of Kentucky College of Public Health

Benitez’s research focuses primarily on the impact of public policy changes on access to care, medically underserved populations and the role of the health care safety net, and the Medicaid program. Recently, he received funding from the UK Schnatter Institute to study hospital utilization patterns among Kentucky’s Medicaid expansion population.

Abigail R. Barker
Research Assistant Professor, Brown School; Faculty Lead for Data and Methods, Center for Health Economics and Policy

Barker is affiliated with the Center for Health Economics and Policy at the Institute for Public Health. She also provides economic analysis for the Rural Policy Research Institute in the area of rural health policy. Her role in the Center for Health Economics and Policy includes helping social science and clinical researchers add cost and cost-effectiveness analyses to their work as a way of increasing policy relevance, as well as providing data visualization assistance to allow stakeholders to interact with policy data.

Timothy D. McBride
Bernard Becker Professor, Brown School and Co-Director of the Center for Health Economics and Policy

McBride is an influential health policy analyst and leading health economist shaping the national agenda in rural health care, health insurance, health reform, Medicare and Medicaid policy, health economics, and access to health care. He is currently studying Medicaid policy, access for the uninsured, the implementation of health reform at the state and national levels, Medicare Advantage, and long-term entitlement reform.
