Revisiting Deconstruction and Decolonization: A Tribute to Chela Sandoval's "Methodology of the Oppressed" in its 25th Anniversary
Thursday, November 6, 2025 4:15 PM to 5:30 PM
About this Event
Umrath Hall, St. Louis, MO 63130
With Keynote Speaker Professor Nelson Maldonado Torres
This presentation continues a conversation that started with Chela Sandoval's Methodology of the Oppressed twenty-five years ago, and an exchange with Sandoval herself in the context of the "Mapping the Decolonial Turn" Conference at the University of California-Berkley. It was this conference that introduced the concept of a "decolonial turn," which is now found in dozens, if not hundreds, of publications around the world. Methodology of the Oppressed is a tour-de-force that simultaneously seeks to make the case for a focus on the decolonial rather than the postcolonial, and for a desegregation of theoretical domains.
